History
The Raza Resource Centro (RRC) is one of the Campus Community Centers under the Vice-Chancellor of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at UC San Diego. The Centro emerged in response to advocacy efforts by student organizations like Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano/a de Activismo (MEChA, formally known as Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano/a de Aztlán) and the Black Student Union (BSU), which called for resources and support for Black & Brown students. Initially, MEChA and BSU jointly led a Student-Run Center before separating into two distinct community centers, one being the Raza Resource Centro.
As a Campus Community Center with administrative staff and student interns, we offer activities, events, and resources to connect students, staff, faculty, and alumni. The RRC is open to everyone, and we strive to emphasize and foster the access, retention, and graduation of Chicanx-Latinx students as well as create strong connections with our surrounding community. We use words with the letter X (Latinx) to create an inclusive environment for all of the students and individuals who visit our space, regardless of gender identity or expression.
